Exactly how healthy is green tea? That of course depends on many factors including…

  • how the tea leaves are grown
  • when the tea leaves are harvested
  • how the tea leaves are processed
  • how you yourself store the tea leaves
  • how you steep the tea leaves

While there are many claims to the benefits of Japanese green tea, particularly sencha and matcha, we’ll make it simple for you. Drinking unsugared tea is healthier than sugared drinks!

More specifically though, Japanese green teas (and derivatives such as genmaicha and houjicha) contain a number of elements that make it healthy. Look for information these elements at the bottom left of each tea information page in the tea store.
