As most of you are aware of, International Tea Farms Alliance (http://www.teafarms.org/) and Obubu Tea Plantations (http://www.obubutea.com/) will be visiting areas hit by the March 11th disaster in January 2012. We will be serving tea to those who have lost their homes and their loved ones. We believe that we can share our love and care this winter through tea – Tea is Relief.

Here’s an update on our “Tohoku Tea Relief Caravan” schedule.

01/04/2012 – 01/10/2012 – IWATE -
START!!
We’ll arrive at Hanamaki Airport in Iwate on January 4th and 10 of us will rent a big van to head off to Morioka and Tanohata. In the days after, we will visit temporary shelters and serve foods and teas to the people there with the help of a volunteer group. We’ll also invite rakugo story teller add more colors to our events.

01/11/2012 – 01/15/2012 – MIYAGI -
Our next stop is Miyagi where we will stay for a total of 5 days – serving tea to people living in temporary shelters in Kesennuma, Minami Sanriku and Sendai. On some days, the schedule will be very tight as we will be holding two events in a day. On 13 January all of us will go to Watanoha in the afternoon  and in the evening we will make stop in Ogatsu – the people there will receive try tea from Obubu’s tea farms and enjoy it with traditional Japanese sweets. We will hand out tea leaves for them to take home and enjoy it with their families.

01/16/2012 – 01/18/2012 – FUKUSHIMA -
From Sendai in Miyagi, we will move to Fukushima at 7 am and we are schedule to arrive at our first stop at around 10 am. We will visit a temporary shelter in Matsukawa-cho and on the second day we will another one in Aizuwakamatsu. On 18 January, we will go to Minami Soma for a stop, finishing our event tour in Fukushima.


01/19/2012 – 01/20/2012 – IBARAKI & SAITAMA -
We will reach Mito in Ibaraki on the evening of January 18th and we will spend the night there to rest and get ready for a big day the next morning. On 19 January, there will be a charity “Tea” event to help raise fund for the rebuilding of Kairakuen and Kodo-kan, both of which are important historical and cultural sites of Japan. To start our tour in Saitama, we will begin in Sayama and then hold a tea event there to encourage victims of the March 11th disaster.


01/21/2012 – 01/21/2012 – KANAGAWA & TOKYO -
On 21 January, we plan to arrive in Minami-Ashigara late at night to spend the night in there. In the morning, before we head back to our final stop, Tokyo, we will hold a tea event there to share our love and hope with the victims in the area. In Tokyo, we will hold a meeting to share information on the project and current conditions of Tohoku. We will hold a similar meeting in Kyoto, too on 22 January.

    1/9 Ofunato City, Iwate Pref / ”Tea relief for physically and mentally disabled living in temporary housing”, “Tea relief for disaster victims not living in temporary housing” (lots of people are now living with family, though their own homes are gone)
  • 陸前高田『落語とお茶で仮設住宅の方に楽しいひとときを届けよう!』
  • 陸前高田『北限の茶畑に行って、茶畑を守るためにできることを考えよう』
  • 気仙沼・大島『大島の小・中学生に京都・和束の小・中学生の想いを届けよう!』
  • 南三陸『老人介護施設や仮設住宅の方にお茶でほっこりしてもらおう!』
  • 石巻・渡波『日本茶、紅茶、中国茶のお茶会を現地の方たちに楽しんでいただこう!』
